App privacy policy
Why the APP collects location and how it protects data privacy
This data is only collected if the user has explicitly authorised it. To ensure privacy, the location information doesn’t allow the identification of the person and will not be used for any other purpose than sending alerts about the territory and will not be passed on to third parties.
- Why location is collected: To send alerts that affect a specific geographic area to app users who have activated it.
- When this data is used: Due to privacy policy, this data is only used if the location is enabled and the user has given the app permission to use this data. If it is detected that the person is or has been near the affected area, the app will query the location in the background to report it to the push notification platform in order to send the alert linked to the location.
- How this data is collected: The operating system provides the mechanism to obtain the data (data network, GPS, telephone network, etc.). Other applications are not consulted to obtain the location and it will always be approximate, not precise. The application remains operative in the background to be able to collect changes in the location of the mobile phone and the Meteocat saves the last one.
What other personal data the app collects, how it does so and why
According to the user’s preferences, settings and use of the app, some of this data is collected in accordance with the privacy policy:
- Analytical data: Cookies are collected relating to the interaction with the application for statistical purposes. They provide information relevant for Meteocat that is used to improve the app. This information doesn’t allow the identification of the person and will not be used for any other purpose. The type of cookies is Firebase Analytics using the IDFA (Advertising Identifier). See the use policy at https://firebase.google.com/policies/analytics/?hl=es-419.
- Preferences: Meteocat collects preferences on procedures, aids and territories in order to offer more personalised content and send alerts based on the user’s preferences and subscriptions. It will not be used for any other purpose and will not be passed to third parties.
- Push notifications: if the option I will receive push notifications is activated, Meteocat recovers the identifier in order to send personalised automatic communications (push) linked to the user’s preferences. It will not be used for any other purpose and will not be passed to third parties.
This personal data is retained for as long as the app is installed and no longer than one year.
How the data collected by the Meteocat app is treated to guarantee your privacy
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 and LO 3/2018, of 5 December (LOPDGDD), we inform you that we will process the personal data of the app users who wish to receive automatic personalised communications (push), in the following terms:
- Data Controller: Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC): Q-0801167-H. carrer Dr. Roux, 80, 1a planta, 08017 Barcelona
- Data Protection Officer: protecciodades.meteocat@gencat.cat
- Purpose: Management of the users of this application who have activated automatic personalised communications, at the user’s choice.
- Legitimation: Your express consent to be the recipient of these notifications.
- Conservation: The data will be kept for the time strictly necessary to comply with the aforementioned purpose, respecting in any case what is determined by the applicable file regulations.
- Addressees: The Data Controller does not foresee the communication of data to third parties.
- Rights: Applicants may exercise their rights of access, rectification, limitation, suppression, opposition or portability by writing to the address of the Data Protection Officer: protecciodades.meteocat@gencat.cat. A photocopy of the ID card must be attached or the e-mail must be signed with a recognised electronic signature.
- Complaint: You can file a complaint to the Catalan Data Protection Authority (apdcat.gencat.cat).
